- MANDATE OF THE
MINISTRY
To
transform Borno State into an economically viable international center for
commerce, tourism and investment by creating the enabling environment for
private sector participation in developing, resuscitation and growing key
industries to boost employment and economic output, including Small Medium
Enterprises.
The
Ministry strives for:
i)
Wealth creation and employment generation
through value chain development of industrial activities with strong private
sector participation.
ii)
Foster and motivate a booming Small Medium
Enterprises (SME) sector for increased output for local consumption and
exports.
iii)
Positioning the state as a logistics hub for
African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA)
iv)
Tourism development and promotion as a strong
tool for economic growth.
Government, through the Ministry is of the
committed view to achieve the desired mandate.
2.
FUNCTIONS
OF THE MINISTRY
The
core function of the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism is the
initiation, formulation and implementation of policies geared towards wealth
and employment creation, poverty reduction and ensure service delivery capable
of stimulating growth and development of the domestic economy through Commerce,
Investment and Tourism such as;
Ø Creating
Industrial Policy that will provide enabling environment for setting up of
Industries.
Ø Establishing
Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to reposition the existing
Industries and Government Corporations.
Ø Strengthening
the capacity of the Borno Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture
(BOCCIMA) to open up windows of opportunity through trans-border trade and
market.
Ø Providing
opportunity for low interest microcredit to traders/enterpreneurs through
partnership with Bank of Industry, Microfinance Banks etc.
Ø Empowering
small Trades/Businesses with grants and revolving loans as part of the economic
empowerment strategy.
